About Sharon Wachsler

Photo of Sharon WachslerSharon Wachsler is an award-winning poet and playwright and a widely published essayist, journalist, and short story writer. She lives in rural western Massachusetts with her service dog, Gadget, her retired assistance dog, Jersey, and her cat, Ferdinand. She is an environmental and disability rights activist who lives with chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS) and multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS). Over the years Sharon has been an information and referral specialist, a newsletter editor, and a self-defense instructor. She loves teaching and has been a teacher and trainer for a variety of subjects, including acting, film, disability rights, MCS access, and women's studies.

Sharon's passion is her writing. Despite being disabled by chronic illness since 1995, Sharon strives to deepen her writing practice, hone her craft, and advance her publishing career. Her work has been seen internationally, including essays and cartoons in the British anthology Knowing ME (London: Women's Press, 1998) and translated into German for the forthcoming anthology Das MCS-Lesebuch . Sharon's prose appears in the books Yentl's Revenge, Restricted Access , Best Lesbian Erotica 2003 , and is forthcoming in Burned Into Memory . Her poetry, essays, fiction, and cartoons have been published in Sojourner , The Women's Times , Ragged Edge , Peregrine , Worcester Magazine , Moxie, Bitch, off our backs, On Our Backs, Our Toxic Times, Disability Issues, The CFIDS Chronicle, Disability Studies , and other magazines. In 2001 Sharon's poetry won the Peregrine Prize and was nominated for a Pushcart. She also writes a monthly humor column for AbilityMaine.org and recently launched Sick Humor Postcards, a home business selling funny postcards about life with disability.

DANCING WITH THE MUSE is Sharon's inaugural online creative writing class. She is excited to share the writing journey with a new group of people. Sharon hopes to make each class a welcoming, supportive, and mentally and emotionally engaging experience.
